NIRVANA – YOU KNOW YOU’RE RIGHT

If some of you happened to glance at msn.com on Wednesday (10/25), you might have seen the article on “Top Earning Dead Celebrities?” via Forbes.com. It basically says that Kurt Cobain has surpassed Elvis at $50 million. How you ask? Here is what I found the most interesting in the article (I’ll quote):

“…But a one-off event can catapult a star onto the list — or, in the case of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, to the top. While his music continues to sell, his debut atop the list is largely due to his widow, Courtney Love, who sold a 25% stake in his song catalog to publishing company Primary Wave for a reported $50 million…”

That’s right…. FINALLY Kurt’s music can help sale you that SUV you’ve always really wanted! Thanks, Courtney. But truly, it had to happen sometime… and you knew it was coming soon. Afterall, those of us that could barely afford Nirvana’s albums back-in-the-day, can now afford to buy whatever Kurt & Company are associated with now (hell, I own almost Nirvana everything… even the crap — and they aren’t my favorite Seattle sound).

NIRVANA – BIG CHEESE

Really, I can’t wait to hear something like “Heart Shaped Box” played in a commercial — causing me of course to throw whatever is near at the television screen — nonetheless, forcing me to buy the new Plasma-screen it’s advertising at that moment. Damn corporate America… not that there is anything wrong with that.

Lacey Rose, writer of the Forbes.com article, thinks that Kurt “never imagined” that his music would “be used in advertising campaigns.” I disagree with that. I think it’s very possible that is EXACTLY what Kurt imagined at times. But it doesn’t excuse the suicide one bit. So while many would say f*ck Kurt and Courtney too… we still all ask, where’s the music??
