Alright, hold on to your butt’s… this one’s gonna be massive. Trust me the irony is not lost on me that we’re 2 months into 07 and we’re still counting down our top ten of 06. I’m just not gonna make lame excuses or do any finger pointing in regards to that. Anyway…
Every now and then I get reminded of just how far outside the realm of mainstream music I operate in. As I’ve stated before I maybe turn on a radio once every six months and I don’t watch too much TV or read the same music rags that most other people do. Of course if you talk to me for more than ten minutes in real life chances are within that frame of time you’ll come to realize how much of a music geek I really am. I just tend to find my music through alternative sources (making me the epitome of how we define “Alternakid” around these parts). Last nights list of Grammy winners was another bizarre reality check for me.
When discussing this years Coachella line-up with a few people I was surprised at how unfamiliar they were with a lot of the acts who are playing this year. In my world these guys have been all the rage over the past year or so. Many with highly acclaimed albums released recently or with highly anticipated releases for ’07. Of course when I’m really into a certain band I usually end up doing enough research that my perspective gets skewed as to how much coverage they’re actually getting in the grand scheme of things. But that’s all neither here nor there. The point is I feel like I need to introduce some of these people to the faithful tribe of you who check this space regularly.
This post is mostly comprised of tracks that I and the other Alternakids had on hand already (save for a handful that I grabbed from my daily blog perusal and a special search for “Gogol Bordello” because they can’t be explained unless you hear them), and I tried to put a few gems in to surprise longtime fans as well as introduce those who are completely unfamiliar. For that reason I can’t guarantee that the tracks I’ve provided are the best overall repesentation of each group, but they’re the ones that I thought you all would appreciate the most.
I’ve listed all the tracks individually and I didn’t provide a zip file, so you can pick and choose what you want to keep, but if you want to save time and just grab it all for later, refer to my helpful hint’s post for how to grab everything with a single click.
I’d love to provide commentary for each track, but chances are I’ll be doing individual posts for a lot of these guys at some point or another anyway, so if you have any specific questions then just post a comment and I’ll write a reply there.
So without any further ado Here’s about 5 1/2 hours of music (25 minutes of which is one SY track alone) for you to rock out to on your road trip to Indio. Drop me a line and I’ll meet up with you there.

It took forever to load up all these traks as it is, so I’d be insane to try and go through and post individual album graphics and links. In lieu of that I say you should support these artist by just grabbing a ticket to the show and meeting me there.
I know I’ve grabbed some of these tracks from other blogs over the past few months, but I really couldn’t tell you what came from where. If you see something “exclusive” you know I snagged from your site and want additional credit just let me know and I’ll give it where it’s due (chances are you’re already on our blogroll if I read you regularly) .
